Wireless and Lightware Communications
Prior to joining the faculty here in 1995, he spent seven years as Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of the Center for Telecommunications Research at Columbia University. Prior to that, he spent 20 years as a researcher and senior research manager at AT&T Bell Laboratories. He is Director of UC San Diego's Center for Wireless Communications.

Research Interests

Communication satellite systems, data networking, packet switching, broadband networks, Asynchronous Transfer Mode traffic management, and multihop lightwave networks.

Current Research

Broadband wireless access, cellular radio systems, and network management strategies.
